Lets face it, we live in a global economy.

skeeter March 10th, 2001 12:21

Bart: This is my point, they all do it to survive. Can't really blame any company for staying alive. But no one can rightfuly complain about one company when in truth all do the same thing. Thanks to our Feds for the stupid rules they lay on the American companys, due to the tree huggers.

Duke March 10th, 2001 14:45

skeeter,

so what???
Are they building trucks there, putting blue ovals on them, then selling them back to us????

Nope.

But gm is, and has been for 10 years.

I think it's GREAT that domestic companies are manufacturing overseas. As long as the majority is SOLD overseas. Then the money & profit comes back home.

better than phoney baloney gm who sold out to isuzu.

Duke: I did not say it was not the fastest(just giving you a hard time).Have you drove the GMC C3,its no slouch by any means. They have a track south of the city(small town)Lighting's run out there. They get beat every time they run the Buick Grand Nationals (a Buick club is there every weekend. These things are stock. Some of them have beefed them up a little & they are 6 bangers.Very little work & they run 11's,then you can get back on the road ,with air, cd players & still get great mileage, son gets 24 (when he keeps his foot out of it.)

close but not right...ford builds the ranger and the mazda b series in the usa. mazda only builds the escort and that is now gone.

but it does go both ways because half of the PSD's are built in mexico. I support buying american made products but the UAW is the reason we can't afford to build cars in the USA.

UAW is the reason for cars being built outside our borders?
Then why do foreign automakers build here in the states? Or do they just have RATSand WORMS build them?
I am quite confident that it is not too expensive to build a platform with UAW line, what it does is cut into the back suit pocket of the fat-cat bean counters. That is a big NO-NO.
hammerdown: could you add any validity to the rumor I read about the ZR1 and how GM wanted Isuzu to build and design the powerplant?

because foriegn auto makers don't have to pay federal Corporate income taxes when they build autos in the US. It's a huge loophole in the tax codes that has been exploited by foreign car builders for a long time now.

It gives them a huge advantage, since they don't have to pay taxes to operate in the US and they save a great deal of money on shipping, too.

look at where the foreign cars are made. nowhere near detroit where UAW is the strongest. Toyota and Honda will not work with a union. The UAW had its place back in the early days when people were forced to work in inhuman conditions. but now with strikes every year and the UAW forcing up wages the car companys have no choice but to raise car prices and make cutbacks in the quality of there products. Half the members of the UAW do excelent work but the other half are garbage and should be fired but they can't because as soon as they try to fire someone they crawl to there union rep and cry and get there job back. its all a load of BS

skeeter March 28th, 2001 19:30

You people better wake up,yes some union workers are worthless, but with out the unions we would all be working for 2 or 3 dollars an hour.Let them die off & watch what happens, all you cry babys will be screaming bloody hell. And the cost of living will still keep going up.The Unions are why the min-wage has come up to what it is.As someone who watched truckers(Teamsters Union) go from 1.00 hour(50's) to 17.00 (90's)This countrys work force is strong because of our Unions. No Unions ,no nothing. No Thanks....

Duke March 28th, 2001 21:13

skeeter,

No YOU better wake up. Look at what you buy.
gm is selling out the american worker faster than any major american manufacturer.

by purchasing gm vehicles, you are adding to the profits of a company that is shipping prized American manufacturing jobs overseas.

The power is in yours and my hands. Refuse to buy from sell-out companies.
