injector pump
HI I just spent $500.00 to have the diesel shop tell me that I need a new injector pump for my truck! They want $1530.00 for the pump and $600.00 to install it. I know there expensive but I think this is a little out of line. If anyone has any ideas on a cheaper pump for a 95 6.5 DS pump I'd love to hear them.

IP cost
The spare which came with my 99 Burb cost me $600.
I recently bought a GM rebuilt, which fits all of the 6.5s except the oddball 1994 version, for $300.
I do my own labor, so that is not a factor.
Be sure it is the IP before spending the money for a replacement.

It was on a list (each city and area has one) and the name is not a site sponsor. However, "Craig" was very helpful. The price was $500 but I negotiated the final price of $300 plus 10% shipping. The price included a 34583 PMD.
The seller sent it C.O.D. and I do not know if he would (or could) send it to Canada that way.
Auction sites are also a good source of rebuilt pumps. Sometimes a search of the Internet will find a bargain

Thanks I am only 30 miles from the boarder and could have it shipped to Pembina North Dakota. My brothe lives just this side of the boarder but works in the US.

Do you need just the pump, or the pump and the PMD? The PMD adds a good $250 to the price.
I can get you a pump without a PMD for $550 CAD, shipped from within Canada (so you pay no duty), including shipping cost from here to Manitoba. Shipping time would be at least 2 weeks, because I need to get it shipped to me in the US first so I can re-ship it within Canada.
For a pump with brand new PMD, the price goes up to $800 CAD (again, this is a fixed price that includes all shipping and re-shipping fees).
You can also order it yourself and maybe pay slightly less, but in my experience, UPS, FedEx and Canada Post are the best at charging ridiculous "duty" fees on top of taxes on the value of the goods. I've been nailed with paying 90% of the value of the item just so they'd give it to me. This is why many US resellers do not ship to Canada. This is also why I have a mailing address in the US now
But you should really check to be sure you actually need a new pump. You haven't mentioned any of the symptoms you're experiencing, and many shops and dealerships automatically assume the pump is at fault. Since most new pumps include a PMD, that would fix your problem, but cost 5x more to repair for nothing.
$600 is actually a pretty good price for installation of an injection pump.
P.S. Blue Bombers must die!

Pump
Since you have a US shipping address, I will try to reach the seller and see if he has another pump.

Hi Frank
No I know its the pump. We checked the PMD at Western Turbo here in Manitoba they put one of there PMD's on for the weekend to see if it would stop the problem but no luck. The truck still starts hard and smokes bad, if you take it up to 300 grand on the tac it really breaks up. We tried a presure gauge on the lift pump as well but no luck. It also will just kind of hickup and stop some times. My friend at Western Turbo is pretty well convinced its the pump.
They do sell them but like I said they want $1530.00 for the pump with a new PMD even though I know I don't need one. They told me to look around that I could find it for less . There shop rate is $93.00 an hour and he told me 6 hours to put one in if I find it.
Let me know where you are in Canada and we can talk about the pump.
Thanks

Wow!! $1500? I priced a rebuilt from GM 2 months ago and their list price is just over $1200.00 and they would let me "have" it for $890.00. I'd shop around if I were you. If no luck on E Bay, "Craig", ETC. try GM Direct.com. I even checked with a local rebuilder and they wanted more to rebuild my old pump than GM wanted for their rebuilt pump. Mike

Pump still available for $300 plus C.O.D. shipping.
I am waiting on the seller to approve sending his e-mail address to you. Once he does, I will send you a private message.

Question.. What did the shop do for $500.00?? Surely it was more than just a diagnosis???? Could it be they thought it was something else but that didn't fix it??? And now its got to be the IP??????????
FWIW, I would check the LP circuit and LP, then thoroughly check for ANY air leaks in the fuel supply system (fuel tank to the inlet of the IP) BEFORE you buy a new/reman IP..
Just cause its not leaking fuel does not mean an airleak isn't present. If the fuel lines are factory stock, it would be wise to go ahead and replace 'em.
I know from past experiences, an inop LP combined with an airleak will display symptoms and/or DTC's indicating a faulty IP.

Thanks Ron but we have done that. I had a bunch of messed up wiring on the truck. It was giving 17 different error codes that we had to fix before finding the pump problem.
