Harry 6.5 heads

I have the 2 cracked heads on the 1992 ton and have found 2 new in the box heads from "Craig". The heads are 567 which match mine but Craig said they take the long injectors (pre 90) and mine take the short. Do I need to find another set. I just bought these injector about 6 months ago. They are also non turbo and mine are turbo. Thanks Tileman

Injectors versus heads

No, your injectors will work on the heads.

I have short injectors in 567 heads on my 83 and 99, both with 1992-1993 blocks.

The heads do not dictate the injector length, the application does.

In my case, the 1983 is a van and needs the short injectors for the engine to fit and the 1999 has a turbo.

Ok, Harry what about the turbo? His is non turbo heads and mine are turbo. Craig also said because his are pre 90 the angle on the injectors are different. Also will the threads on the injector be the same thread? Will everything work ok? Thanks

Heads

My 99 has 567 heads, a factory turbo and exhaust manifolds, short injectors, all bolted to a 1992-1993 6.2 block.

There are no issues. The combination works perfectly. A slight bend of the injection lines at the injectors may be necessary for the slight injector angle difference between older and newer heads.

Unless the heads are 1982, thread pitch is NOT an issue.

These heads that Craig has are older style not newer. These are late 80's for a 6.2. Mine are 1992 6.5. So I will be putting older version on a newer motor. Still ok?

Older heads

Yes, the heads will work.

Older heads to be noisier than those with the changed injection angle.

Noise

Let me correct and clarify my last post:

Newer style heads, such as 567, are noisier than the older style heads and tend to reduce black smoke.

The noise is most noticeable on a cold engine. When warm, old style and new style heads produce about the same amount of noise.

All 6.2/6.5 heads are flat on their bottom surfaces and are interchangeable. Buy head gaskets for the block you are using and replace the head bolts or use ARP studs when reassembling the heads to the engine.
