Next Step on my 6.5

Hi Harry, Well I made the trip To Craig and am back at home. So, I now have 2 brand new heads. I guess my first question is there a supply parts house that sells good parts at a resonable price that you guys use? Next question is, this ton truck is a box truck that I use out of town and it carries heavy loads (Tile). So it has been know to run warm in the summer time. I want to put a new radiator on it and I was wondering what else I need to help cool this beast. I have seen a cross over pipe with dual thermos. I have also seen high volume water pumps. You guys have been doing this a long time so I value your knowledge. Put me on the right road so maybe I can prevent this from happening again. Thank you, Cass

To fit ir not to fit

As a box truck, you may or may not have electronic injection. If you have mechanical injection, the double thermostat crossover will not fit without modification (cutting and welding the aluminum outlet).

Without a serpentine system, the HO water pump is not readily available. Most HO water pumps fit the counter-rotation system found on serpentine belt drives.

I would try the new radiator first. And maybe a 180 degree F thermostat (Prestone 370-180 or Mr. Gasket).

The truck is a pickup cab. It is a 1 ton. Someone put the box on it. It does have a serpintine belt and it is a mechanical injection I am guessing because I didnt see any wiring going to it. Does the crossover make alot of difference? What about the parts suppy house? Do you know of a good one? Any brand of gasket set better than another?

I'm pretty sure that ALL 6.5 powered vehicles through the end of model year '93 had mechanical pumps. In '94 that changed as all pickup based models went electronic. I don't know about the van models, but I gather they could be either way. So, being yours is a '92, and pickup based, it most assuredly has a mechanical pump on it. Mike
