    Thumbs up moonrunner

For you guys that are changing fluid and filters in your transmissions. Don't use a wix filter or fram unless you want to restrict fluid flow as your magnet covers the holes in the filter completly. The holes inside the filter on those are drilled closer to the center wheras the GM filter arecloser to the outside of the filter. Also since Allison does not put a drain plug in the converter to drain the fluid completly as Ford 7.3 diesel auto do if you just drop the pan to change the fluid you are only changing 10 or eleven quqrts. I changed mine yesterday with a BG flush machine and refilled it with 23 quarts of BG synthetic fluid. As to what came in my 04 3500 GMC I have not a clue and neither does the dealer which comes as no surprise. There are other flushing machines out there but my transmission shop is sold their product and tools.

    Filter Costs

You can buy the OEM filter from Allison dealers for about 6 dollars. Found one in my area and also get Transynd fluid from them.

Just my two cents worth, My '07 LBZ diesel supplement book calls for Dextron VI automatic transmission fluid, which as far as I know is synthetic fluid, but not sure. It also says change the allison's spin on filter at every second engine oil change, fluid and filter at 25,000 miles for heavily used ones and 50,000 miles on lightly used ones to satisfy the warranty. About the filter, do you have any thoughts about the Baldwin brand filter restricting fluid flow? Mike
