    allhuskys,

First things I would check are
    1. CPS (crank position sensor) located on the passenger side of the balancer. Ford just did a major recall on 97 and newer PSD's. Don't know why they left out our 96. Simple to change, it has (2) 10mm bolts and comes right off. But chances are, when the CPS goes bad, the engine will not start at all.

    2. Check for fuel leaks in the "valley". If you have a leak, chances are you will see it trickeling down the back passenger side of the engine.

    3. When is the last time you changed your fuel filter?

    4. I saved this for last because it is the hardest to verify, but I do believe this is what your problem is. The Injector presure regulator. It is mounted on the drivers side of outside of the fuel filter housing. The bronze colored apperatus with rigid lines going in and out of it. Inside the cylender shape on the IPR is a plastic float type device that has a small nut holding it in place. This nut is known to back off, causing exactly what you discribe. When mine backed off, I could step on the throttle and anytime my RPM hit 1200-1300, no matter what gear, it felt like I had a cylinder miss fire. Ford does sell a upgrade nut to prevent this from happening. Good luck getting the IPR of cause it aint easy with those rigid lines.

    Hope that helps.

    Just some points to ponder.
