Thread: Hesitation and smoke when cold

I put this in the wrong site location and i'll try again. My marinediesel 6.5 hesitates,smokes and runs very rough in gear until it warms up. After the sputtering and shuddering it smooths out and runs great. It occurs in the 1500 to 2500 rpm range. I might be over propped, but i'm not sure if that would cause this problem. I can rev the engine when cold and there is no breaking up.

Just put the boat back in the water with 22P props. That was the problem. I guess it overloaded the engine before it had warmed up.And I had changed the filters befoe I posted.
