The 6.5s & later 6.2s came with an inline lift pump that replaced the block mounted one, and a blockoff plate (same as a gas SB chevy motor) blocked off the hole-I run an AC Delco one on my 6.2, and I've heard that a Carter electric rotary style will also work-maybe Harry will see this, I think he runs them on his.

    Lift pump

Three of them, to be exact.

Carter P4070, though there are other comparable models out there.

15 to 30 GPH, at 6 to 8 PSI, works in the 6.2/6.5 application.

If you want to be certain about lift pump operation, install a mechanical pressure gauge. It also helps diagnose restrictive filter(s).

To block off the opening in the block, if replacing a mechanical lift pump, use a Mr. Gasket P/N 1515.

    Cut and clamp

You should remove the mechanical lift pump, push rod, and adapter plate. Use a Mr. Gasket 1515 block-off plate to cover the hole in the block. Use a piece of fuel hose jump across where the mechanical lift pump was (you may need to cut the flare fittings off the metal tubing.

Locate a place for the electric pump near the tank for the electric pump and install it. Wire power to the pump which is on when the key is in the "Run" position. You should provide a diesel filter assembly before the electric pump if possible.
