Engine Transplants??,,

Has anyone here ever put a turbo 5 cyl mercedes ,out of an 80s series 300 car,in a C or K series pick up,El Camino or S- 10,? seems like it would be a good fit/match for 1/2 ton trucks or S-10 models?>

maybe

I think an S-10 would be the best choice. I'm not sure what the horsepower is on a 300 series turbo, but I wouldn't think it would be enough torque to push around even a half ton truck. A turbo diesel S-10 Blazer, now, that would be something! If I wasn't so burned out on my project, that would be the next one!

I don't think the Mercedes 300D is carries less weight than a S10. Those cars are freakin' heavy!
Further, the merc turbo diesel is very easy to get preppy and together with an automatic gearbox I think it will be quite enough for a S10.

My 300D weighs a LOT more than a S-10! The only somewhat challenging part will be getting springs strong enough to hold up the front end-I think the OM617 motor weighs around 750 lbs by itself! I've seen pictures of small blocks being put into 300Ds, it'll probably fit.
